I’d like to know your thoughts about the numerous retcons in the last movie of the franchise and discuss about that. The list is not exhaustive.
1. I remember ten years ago, screenwriter Terry Rossio stated that Will Turner was supposed to be freed from the Flying Dutchman after ten years of service, the green flash in the post-generic scene symbolizing his return from the world of the dead. So it seems writers have changed this statement for the necessity of the story. Let’s admit it. But why does he get the “doomed look” of the previous Dutchman’s crew ? Does it mean he didn’t accomplish his duty by carrying the souls of the men who died to sea (according to Calypso’s whishes) ?
2. In Dead Man's Chest, we learned that Jack Sparrow stole the compass to Tia Dalma a long time ago. Now, he got it by the former captain of the Wicked Wench (who's not an EITC ship anymore) by the same time he got his trinket, which is different from the one of the trilogy (the piece of eight). So, I wonder what happened to the prequel story wrote by A.C. Crispin, The Price of Freedom. Is it still canon ?
3. Black Pearl was still damaged in the bottle as we can see in On Sranger Tides, and he is now completely fixed in a smaller bottle. By the way, Cotton’s parrot has disappeared. Marty, Murtogg & Mullroy wasn’t supposed to be on the Pearl at the time of Blackbeard’s attack ?
What do your opinion about that ? Do you think it might be the beginning of some kind of reboot for the franchise ?
