|Behind the scenes|
- "If the captain is not here, who's in charge?"
"Lieutenant Tal has the deck."
- ―Unknown and Unknown
Tal was an officer serving in the East India Trading Company and the British Royal Navy. Upon reaching the rank of Cadet, Tal was stationed at Port Royal under Lord Cutler Beckett's command. After Beckett's death during the War Against Piracy, Tal was inducted to the ranks of the British Royal Navy and promoted to Ensign. He was assigned to the HMS Providence, under the command of King George II's most trustworthy privateer, Hector Barbossa, which was sent to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. With the tragic loss of officers Lieutenant Commander Theodore Groves and Lieutenant Gillette as well as the defection of Hector Barbossa, Tal, through unknown circumstances, returned to England. Tal was, at some point, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and reassigned to the HMS Resistance, where he served as first officer to its captain.
East India Trading Company
Not much is known about Tal's time in the Company other than the fact that he was stationed at Port Royal.
After Beckett's death, Tal was transfered to the British Royal Navy and promoted to the rank of Ensign. He was assigned to the HMS Providence, under the command of Captain Hector Barbossa. By the King's orders, the Providence sent to find the Fountain of Youth before the Spanish did.

"All hands! More sail!"
"Ride hard between wind and tide!"
- ―Hector Barbossa and Theodore Groves[src]
- "Are we not King's men?"
"On the King's mission?"
"I did not note any fear in the eyes of the Spanish as they passed us by. Are we not King's men?!"
- ―Hector Barbossa and his crew[src]
Tal was present when Barbossa restored confidence in his crew by asking if they were King's men. With that, the Providence sailed for its next destination: Whitecap Bay.
Whitecap Baymermaids. Tal and his crewmen were forced to watched in horror and shock as the Providence was literally dragged into the sea by its attackers, killing all who remained aboard the vessel. With nothing else to do, what remained of the Providence crewmen, on Gillette's orders, pushed on.
Battle for the FountainThe crew, in their search, bumped into Jack Sparrow, who later helped them retrieve the Chalices by inflitrating a Spanish camp. He also led them to the location of the Fountain of Youth. There, they fought in a battle against Blackbeard and his crew. Lieutenant Gillette was killed in action by Blackbeard himself while Lieutenant Commander Groves was later shot by the Spaniard after the arrival of the Spanish crewmen. Tal was one of the few who survived the battle and led the remaining crewmen out of the temple. Through unknown circumstances, Tal was able to return to England.
Equipment and skills
An officer of the British Royal Navy, Tal's skills with his small sword are noteworthy. He survived fighting Blackbeard's pirates during the battle of the Fountain of Youth. In addition, Tal always carried a flintlock pistol on his person.
