The Duel! is a comic short story published in the August 2004 Disney Adventures, set in the Pirates of the Caribbean world and published under the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl title.
Elizabeth Swann has been kidnapped in Tortuga by Captain Jack Sparrow's old ship mate, Hawkins. Sparrow and Hawkins meet outside the Faithful Bride and begin to duel. Jack soon discovers that Hawkins has grown to be a quicker and stronger swordsman than he.
He asks for William Turner's advice. Will suggests that a clever swordsman might use his opponent's strengths to his advantage. Jack tries it, but it doesn't work well for him. Then, Will suggests cheating, which works well.
Jack kicks Hawkins to the ground. Then, he cuts a support which makes another pirate fall on Hawkins. While doing this, Jack explains a pirate is more than a swordsman. A pirate must also be resourceful, sneaky, charming, and ruggedly handsome, all qualities Jack claims Hawkins lacks.
When they find Elizabeth, she has gotten bored of waiting and decided to rescue herself. Jack excuses himself, saying he must find a swordsman he can beat in a fair duel.
