- "Her sails were woven in the islands of Samoa by some mystic fisherman who live there."
- ―Laura Smith
Samoa was an island in the western part of the Samoan Islands archipelago in the south Pacific Ocean.
Contact with Europeans began in the early 1700s but did not intensify until the arrival of the English. In 1722, Dutchman Jacob Roggeveen was the first European to sight the island.
It was on this island where Captain Laura Smith retrieved a special set of sails that would render her ship invisible anytime they were hoisted.
