- "What poor hulk lay smashed on the cruel rocks, pounded by the angry sea? Who knows the gallant efforts of the wretched crew to save the ship? I knows, cause I were there! 'Twas the Royal Fortune, bound for the Spanish Main, with enough treasure aboard..."
- ―Ghostly voice
The Royal Fortune was a notorious pirate ship which operated on the Seven Seas during the Golden Age of Piracy.
History[]
- "What terror lurks in the mind o' stout 'arted seamen...battling the angry seas?"
- ―Unknown
It is unknown when or where the Royal Fortune was built, or how she became a pirate vessel. The only thing known about this ship is that she was wrecked on the rocks off the shore of Isla Tesoro, while her crew searched for the treasure that was hidden within a deadly grotto known as Dead Man's Cove.
Behind the scenes[]
- The Royal Fortune was the ghost ship steered by a skeleton helsman featured in Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. In the Shanghai Disneyland attraction Battle for the Sunken Treasure, the ship's bow is decorated with the figurehead of a woman holding a goblet in her right hand.[citation needed]
- Though it was never named in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, the Royal Fortune was named in unused narration recorded for the original Disneyland ride.[1] That same deleted narration was written in Jason Surrell's book Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies, though for unknown reasons "royal fortune" was not capitalized.[2]
- A similar ship appears in the bonus level of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game. The bonus level is modeled after the ride.
- It is possible that this ship is named after the Royal Fortune, a name used for several ships captained by the notorious pirate Bartholomew Roberts.
Appearances[]
- Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean (First appearance)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure
- Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life (Non-canonical appearance)
