- "It's very exciting because it's the first official invitation for us to collaborate with a great composer for a film. That's very different from what we usually do. All of a sudden, we are here, building all this music from scratch. It's very challenging and very inspiring to work on."
- ―Gabriela Quintero
Rodrigo Sánchez (born January 9 1974) and Gabriela Quintero (born June 11 1973) are a Mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast, rhythmic acoustic guitars. The duo's members are Rodrigo Sánchez (lead guitar), and Gabriela Quintero (rhythm guitar). They composed the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides along with Hans Zimmer.
History[]
The Mexican guitar duo met in Mexico City while playing in a thrash metal band called "Tierra Ácida". Growing frustrated with the limited scope of the domestic music scene, they moved to Europe, where they met considerable acclaim.
Rodrigo y Gabriela also collaborated with Hans Zimmer in writing and recording the score for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.[1] Mitchell Leib, President of Music and Soundtracks for the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group stated[2]:
"We'd always felt it a creative necessity that the 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' score have an original sound all its own and to distinguish itself from the first three films. With the inspiring addition of Rodrigo y Gabriela's unique artistry under the direction of maestro Hans 'Long John' Zimmer, this iconic score franchise take its next step forward with an imaginative, fresh and individual new sound."
