[edit] Origin
- "Why should I sail with any of you? Four of you have tried to kill me in the past; one of you succeed."
- ―Jack Sparrow argues to the Rescure Crew why should he let them on his ship, and looks in Elizabeth Swann's direction about leaving him to the Kraken[src]
The few survivors of the motley crew who abandoned the doomed Black Pearl before the Kraken dragged her with her captain, Jack Sparrow, into Davy Jones' Locker came to Tia Dalma's shack. There, the dishearted crew was resolved to fetch Jack back from the the locker. Tia Dalma then presented their new captain: Hector Barbossa.
[edit] First action
- "None of that. If things don't go the way we want, we're the only hope for them."
- ―Joshamee Gibbs to Ragetti before the Battle of Singapore on their leader's safety
The crew traveled to Singapore in order to get Sao Feng's navigational charts that would give them a way to World’s End. Sao Feng, the Pirate Lord of the South China Sea greeted them courteously, but Barbossa would not take any chances in meeting him. He had Tia Dalma hide outside as a common hawker, while most of the remaining crew infiltrated Sao Feng's bath house in case things didn't go well. The meeting suddenly turned sour when Sao Feng brought the thief- Will Turner- out of a nearby tub of water. He feigned an attack on Turner with a sharpened stake, but Elizabeth gave a high-pitched "No, no!", which confirmed that they knew him, and that they were on fairly good terms. With a call of "Weapons!" the bath house pirates armed themselves, while below the floorboards the crew drew their own. During this, Sao Feng noticed a pirate with a fake tattoo- undoubtedly a spy in their midst. Suddenly, the East India Trading Company burst in, and with a fighting retreat, the crew united with Sao Feng's pirates in order to escape. Throughout the battle, the whole crew fought in the streets of Singapore, using muskets, pistols and even explosives to stay one step ahead of the East India Trading Company soldiers. During the battle, Will Turner made a deal with Sao Feng and managed to get the charts as well as a ship- the Hai Peng. In addition, the rescue crew gained much needed reinforcements in the form of a large group of Chinese pirates led by Tai Huang. With Sao Feng covering their retreat, the now stronger crew set off to rescue Jack.
[edit] Retrieving Jack Sparrow
- ""Who are you?"
"Tai Huang. These are my men."" - ―Jack Sparrow first meets Tai Huang in Davy Jones Locker.
A voyage to World’s end followed; as the crew sailed frozen, uncharted waters and finally sailed their ship over the edge of the world. The ship was wrecked on impact, but the crew survived and were reunited with Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl. They all boarded the ship, and then sailed the seas of the underworld. During the voyage Sparrow and Barbossa both claimed the capitancy, but the crew remained trapped in the Locker. Finally, Jack Sparrow discovered a way of escaping from the locker, he coerced the crew into tipping the Pearl upside down, coinciding with sunset in the Locker that resulted in a green flash and the return of the Pearl to the land of the living. The crew esaped, though they lost at least two members during the rocking.
[edit] Leading Pirates
- "LISTEN! The Brethren will still be looking to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead, and what will they see? Frightened bilgerats aboard a derelict ship? No, no they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will hear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brow and the strength of our backs and the courage in our hearts!"
- ―Elizabeth Swann to the Rescue crew, shortly before the Battle of Calypso's maelstrom[src]
After the return, the crew went on an nearby island to get fresh water, but on the island the Chinese pirates turned on original crewmembers and Sparrow and delivered them to Sao Feng, who arrived at the island. The crewmembers were brought back to the Pearl and chained. Barbossa, however, made a deal with Sao Feng, who agreed to release the crew in exchange for Elizabeth. They set for Shipwreck Island and arrived there right in time for the Brethren Court. The crew was reinforced once more by Brethren pirates, and became the only pirate crew actually involved in the Battle of Calypso's Maelstrom. Many crewmen were killed while fighting the crew of the Flying Dutchman and East India Trading Company soldiers, and Will was mortally wounded, but they won and successfully sailed out of the maelstrom. The few surving Marines, including Mullroy and Murtogg switched allegience and joined the crew.
[edit] The Second Mutiny
- ""Jack! The ship's gone."
"Really?!"" - ―Gibbs and Sparrow, realizing that the Black Pearl had abandoned them.
After the destruction of the HMS Endeavour with Will Turner the new captain of the Flying Dutchman, the crew clebrated their victory. After the pirates' victory, the Black Pearl sailed back to Tortuga. While Jack was in port impressing women, Barbossa rallied the crew to mutiny, left the sleeping Joshamee Gibbs and sailed out of the harbour, planning to use Sao Feng’s charts to find the Fountain of Youth. However, after a while Pintel, Ragetti, Marty, Mullroy and Murtogg demanded Barbossa to show them the charts, but when he did it, they all saw that Jack had cut the middle out of the charts. It is unknown what happened to the crew afterwards.
