- "Why should I believe that this once belonged to the Queen of Spain?"
"Do I look like the kind of man who would lie about a thing like that?"
"Fair enough! But do I also look like the kind of man who personally stole it from the Queen of Spain?"
"Yes. I'll give you 20 pieces of silver for it."
- ―Tavern keeper and Jack Sparrow, talking about the Queen of Spain's beads
A Queen or, queen regnant (plural "queens regnant") was a female monarch who reigned in her own right. On the other hand, a queen consort was the wife of a reigning king. A queen consort usually shared her husband's rank and had the feminine equivalent of the king's monarchical titles. Queen consorts never shared the king regent's political and military powers. Most queens in history were queens consort. Both Laura Smith and Esmeralda were known as pirate queens.

Behind the scenesEdit
- Prior to the release of On Stranger Tides, news articles and rumors persist that Tamara was the "queen of the mermaids". However, as none of the cast and crew defined Tamara or any of the other mermaid characters as a mermaid queen, as well as what was in the film, it was proven to be false.
- One of the main villains of Terry Rossio's original script for Dead Men Tell No Tales was Queen Inez of Spain.
