The Pterodactyl is a type of flying reptile. It was common during the Mesozoic era. Pterodactyls/Pterosaurs are sometimes referred to in the popular media as dinosaurs, but this is incorrect. The term "dinosaur" is properly restricted to a certain group of terrestrial reptiles with a unique upright stance (superorder Dinosauria), and therefore excludes the pterosaurs, as well as the various groups of extinct aquatic reptiles, such as ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, and mosasaurs. Jack Sparrow and Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III encounter them during their adventures with the Timekeeper. Fitzwilliam mentioned that they were thought to be a myth though some people claimed to have found their bones. Though mostly hostile, Jack and Fitzwilliam did briefly befriend one pterodactyl. Jack named it Drag. The flocks assisted them in escaping from a pair of sabertooth tigers. This species is probably Pteranodon, the most famous Pterosaur of all. In reality, Pterosaurs would never meet sabretoothed tigers as Pterosaurs vanished long before the cats appeared.
