"So, you've proven yourself a real pirate, Jack, just like my grandpa. He was always talking about his burried treasure - burried right here in Port Royal. He's been dead many a year, now! Burried in the graveyard! If you can find his treasure, Jack, you can keep it!"
Tavern Keeper to Jack Sparrow[src]

The graveyard of Port Royal was a place where the citizens of that city burried their dead.

It is unknown when the graveyard was built, but it was after the foundation of the city of Port Royal. Several pirates were known to be buried in the graveyard.

In the 1730s, after the mutiny on the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow came to Port Royal, where, with the help of the local Tavern Keeper, he found the grave of one notorious pirate in the graveyard, and his buried treasure.[1] In the 1740s, the undead minions of Jolly Roger were known to occasionally visit this graveyard, to raise the dead with their Voodoo powers and make more undead servants for their master.[2]
