Scrum and Jack Sparrow concerning Philip Swift[src]

This Bible was a leather-bound, cracked and weathered copy of the Holy Bible owned by a young missionary named Philip Swift.

History[]

It is unknown when this leather-bound Bible with impression of cross was made, but it is known that Philip Swift would be given it in his position as a missionary. A man of few possessions, Philip needs little in life except for his cracked and weathered Bible and his simple cross necklace, which lied close to his heart. Despite being taken prisoner by the infamous pirate Blackbeard, and the painful ordeal of being lashed to the mast of the Queen Anne's Revenge, the missionary still managed to cling onto his holy Bible, which was considered his most precious effect.[2]

Philip still had his cracked and weathered Bible with him during Jack Sparrow's mutiny on the Queen Anne's Revenge, which was ultimately foiled by Blackbeard. As Blackbeard ordered the death of the Cook by Greek fire, Philip slammed his Bible down as he tried to convince Blackbeard to not kill the Cook. Philp later used his Bible to the glass coffin, which contained the mermaid named Syrena, so that the mermaid could have air.[3]
