Early history
Edit
Before the discovery of America, Peru and other territories, such as Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, were inhabited by Incas. This Empire was called Tahuantinsuyo.
Since the discovery of America, by Christopher Columbus, the Spanish Crown has sent several expeditions. In one of them, Conquistador Francisco Pizarro defeated, captured and murdered Inca Emperor Atahualpa. Ten years later, the Spanish Crown established the Viceroyalty of Peru, which included most of its South American colonies.

- "Be not deterred, gentlemen. I have a fresh consignment of fine Peruvian llamas due in a fortnight."
- ―Auctioneer[src]
At some point, the Incas acquired some of the Shadow Gold and registered it in the quipus, an Incan tool used to spell out secret messages that can only be explained and decrypted by quipucamayocs—a group of men in who the Inca Emperor trusted for the explanation of quipus. Jack Sparrow and his crew sailed to Peru in their search for the Shadow Gold.[1]
During their quest to lift the Aztec curse, Hector Barbossa's cursed crew raided on Spanish ships heading back to Seville from the country's colonies in Mexico and Peru. All the wealth they plundered included huge quantities of gold and silver bars and coins, which they would put in the caves of Isla de Muerta.[2]
