"I tried working as a farmhand for a year, Cap'n, but the crops failed in the drought. So then I signed aboard a merchant vessel, the Molly Dover. We went all the way to China, Cap'n."
The Molly Dover was a British merchant ship during the first half of the 18th century. She usually sailed on a route from England to China and back. On one such voyage, she hit a rock during the storm off the West African coast. The Molly Dover sank to the bottom of the ocean, but her crew members survived the storm and found shelter in a nearby port of Calabar.
