Klaus Badelt (born June 12, 1967, Frankfurt, Germany) is a soundtrack composer. He composed the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl along with Hans Zimmer.

History[]

Pirates of the Caribbean[]

Composer Alan Silvestri was originally hired to write the score for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. However, due to creative differences between him and Jerry Bruckheimer, Silvestri left and Gore Verbinski asked Hans Zimmer to step in. However, Zimmer declined to do some of the composing as he was scoring The Last Samurai, where he had promised not to take any other assignments. As a result, he referred Verbinski to Klaus Badelt. Zimmer later ended up collaborating along with Badelt to write most of the score's primary themes, many of which, as Zimmer wanted, are credited to Badelt[1].

However, after the success of The Curse of the Black Pearl, Klaus Badelt didn't return to compose the sequels Dead Man's Chest and At World's End[2]. When asked if he could compose for the sequels, he said:

Oh no, I wouldn't like that. They're doing the movie definately. But I don't like franchises. It gets boring. It's hard enough not to repeat yourself anyways. So what would I do on Pirates 2? Write the same music again? I don't think so.
