- "It's a junk!"
"No, I mean, it really is junk."
- ―Will Turner and Barbossa[src] (original screenplay)
A junk (sometimes jonk or chonk) is a Chinese sailing vessel. The English name comes from the Malay dgong or jong. Junks were originally developed during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 220 A.D.) and further evolved to represent one of the most successful ship types in history. A junk's sails made them easy to recognize and their flexibility made the ships fast.
