The Empress, a Chinese junk captained by Sao Feng

"It's a junk!"
"No, I mean, it really is junk.
Will Turner and Hector Barbossa[src] (original screenplay)

A junk (sometimes jonk or chonk) is a Chinese sailing vessel. The English name comes from the Malay dgong or jong. Junks were originally developed during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 220 A.D.) and further evolved to represent one of the most successful ship types in history. A junk's sails made them easy to recognize and their flexibility made the ships fast.

The Pirate Lords Sao Feng and Mistress Ching both commanded fleets of junks, comprising part of the fleet assembled against Lord Cutler Beckett's armada.
