Sunk at Port Royal harbor |
- "You stole my boat!"
"Actually…borrowed. Borrowed without permission, but with every intention of bringing it back to you!"
"But you didn't!" - ―Anamaria and Jack Sparrow[src]
The Jolly Mon was a small fishing dory[1] originally owned by Anamaria and later comandeered by Captain Jack Sparrow.[2]
Anamaria used the dory as a fishing boat until Jack Sparrow stole it from her at some point prior to his arrival in Port Royal. He claimed he had intended to bring it back to its rightful owner, but never actually managed this.[3]
Sparrow sailed the boat into Port Royal ten years after losing the Black Pearl to Hector Barbossa. By the time Jack arrived at Port Royal, the Jolly Mon was sinking, and he reached the dock moments before the boat sank under the waves, leaving only its single mast above water. Jack later commandeered the HMS Interceptor to replace the Jolly Mon. He later promised to give the Interceptor to Anamaria in exchange for the loss of the Jolly Mon, and though she commanded it during the voyage from Isla de Muerta, it was ultimately destroyed by the crew of the Black Pearl.[3]

[edit] Behind the scenes
- The Jolly Mon may have been named after a children's book of the same name by Jimmy Buffet, in which a fisherman's boat is stolen by pirates.
- It was first confirmed on the DVD commentary of The Curse of the Black Pearl that the boat used by Jack at the start of the film, and the one he stole from Anamaria are one and the same.
- The film's first screenplay draft sees the Jolly Mon safely tied up at Port Royal, and later used by Jack and Will to board the HMS Dauntless.[1]
- The Jolly Mon also appears in the constructible card game "Pirates of the Cursed Seas" in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
