"We shouldn't be doing this."
―James[src]

James was an orphan child who was left in the same orphanage Carina Smyth near the 1720s, both became friends during their stay at the orphanage.

Biography[]

He was left in an orphanage sometime around the 1720s-30s, before the age of eight, James befriended a girl also orphan and later a noted astrologer: Carina Smyth.

James did not have a good time at the orphanage. The boys mocked him, stole his token, and then the keepers took it. After a member of the orphanage removes his marbles, Carina decided to retrieve them and replace it with a bag of stones, despite James's complaints, since he doesn't want to be whipped again should they get caught.

Carina insists they won't get caught and that since James didn't deserve to have something taken away from him, he should have it back and get justice. She takes out an identical bag filled with small stones from her shift pocket, quickly replaces the bag with the bag of stones, and gives the marbles to James. They heard footsteps outside the door and hurry back to the window. Carina gives James a lift out the window, However, Carina could not escape.

Later, she continued to defend him, saying that he did not deserve such treatment.
