- "It's not very big."
"Love, that is a dinghy. My vessel is magnificent and fierce and huge-ish and...gone. Why is it gone?" - ―Giselle and Jack Sparrow[src]
This dinghy was a small sailing vessel that was used by Captain Jack Sparrow. It was left for him by Hector Barbossa, who stole Jack's ship the Black Pearl, under circumstances that could only be described as mutiny. Having anticipated this treachery, Jack Sparrow used this dinghy at the starting point of his quest for the Fountain of Youth.

History
Edit
Barbossa's Mutiny
Edit
Following the pirate showdown with Lord Cutler Beckett's Armada, in which the pirates won, Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa had the Black Pearl sail for Tortuga. While Jack went ashore, Barbossa stole the Black Pearl from Jack, under circumstances that could only be described as mutiny[1], and left this dinghy in its place. Jack discovered this treachery while charming Scarlett and Giselle, who he promised a ride aboard the Pearl, in which he spotted the dinghy, the Pearl sailing at the horizon, and his loyal first mate Joshamee Gibbs sleeping at the docks.[2]
Quest for the Fountain of Youth
Edit
With Barbossa having taken the Black Pearl once again, Jack sailed away on this small vessel, where he hoisted his own pirate flag. Luckily, Jack had anticipated Barbossa's treachery and had already stolen Barbossa's map. While drinking a bottle of rum he found in the dinghy, Jack Sparrow used the map and his compass to find his course, sailing the small vessel as he set off towards the Fountain of Youth.[2][1] The fate of the dinghy after Jack began his quest, remain unknown.
Behind the scenes
Edit
- The dinghy's appearance in the At World's End video game was slightly different than what was in the film. Hector Barbossa himself sent Jack to the dinghy rather than leaving it where Jack would find it in Tortuga. After a while of sailing on it, Jack met with Black Bart aboard his ship.
- In LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game, Jack began his journey to the Fountain of Youth with Joshamee Gibbs aboard the dinghy, rather than by himself.
