Reverted back into the Barnacle
|Behind the scenes|
- "Magically transformed into a ship-of-the-line by the magic of the Sword of Cortes, the Grand Barnacle is everything Jack ever wished for."
The Grand Barnacle was the name given to the fishing boat Barnacle when it was transformed into a large hybrid of a warship and ship of the line by the magic of the Sword of Cortés. Young Jack Sparrow used the Sword to create this vessel and sail it on his own, while under the influence of the spirit of Hernán Cortés. Its firepower was powerful enough to destroy a British naval vessel. Ultimately, after Cortés was defeated, the Grand Barnacle was reverted back to its original form as the Barnacle.
- "So, that there's our ship, eh?"
"If you don't mind, milady, it's my ship, my sword, my adventure."
- ―Arabella Smith and Jack Sparrow[src]
To ensure a young Jack Sparrow succeeds in his mission to bring him the stone eye of Stone-Eyed Sam, the spirit of Hernán Cortés used his magical sword, the Sword of Cortés, on Jack's small fishing boat, the Barnacle, which emerged as the large warship Grand Barnacle. With the power of the Sword, Jack manned the ship alone quite easily as he sailed the ship across the Caribbean Sea, though was unable to fully control it. When attacked by a British naval vessel, the Grand Barnacle destroyed the ship and all aboard in retaliation, despite Jack's attempts to stop the carnage.
Design and appearance
- "And how, pray tell, do you intend to sail a vessel such as the Grand Barnacle on your own?"
"I have my ways, mate."
"It is impossible. A ship like that would require a crew of hundreds. You cannot do it on your own."
"Oh, no? Watch me."
- ―Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III and Jack Sparrow[src]
When the Sword of Cortés was used on the Barnacle, it transformed the small fishing boat into a large warship, with the name "GRAND BARNACLE" painted across its broadside. A large vessel, the Grand Barnacle had became a glorious war vessel, fitted with multiple decks and sails. The ship's weaponry would consist of numerous cannons upon cannons, evidenced by the destruction of a British naval warship. With the power of the Sword of Cortés, young Captain Jack Sparrow manned the Grand Barnacle all on his own, though he was unable to fully control it. The Grand Barnacle was reverted back to its original form when the spirit of Montecuhzoma defeated Cortés on Isla Fortuna.
