I've noticed that some other wikis have dictionaries; terms and phrases grouped into alphabetical pages, covering both in-universe and out. We could do the same here: include pirate slang and various other terms used in the franchise, as well as common abbreviations and similar (CotBP, DMC, AWE etc), not only as an additional facet of the encylopedia, but also as something of a guide for users - Captain Kwenn Talk 20:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I could see something like that here, though I can't imagine it being very expansive, being that pirate slang from the movies, games and books, seems to be a very narrow subject. But if things like CotBP and other abbreviations could be helpful, and it seemed like people would actually use it, I suppose I could get behind the idea.--Lord Cutler BeckettPort Royal 22:14, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
    • I agree with Lord Cutler Beckett. It doesn't seem like a very large subject, but it really couldn't hurt either. How much information would we provide? The best of my dictionaries provide the correct spelling, a definition, pronunciation, part of speech, and etymology for each word.--Wanderingshadow 23:23, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
      • I'm not sure about an etymology, but the others seem sensible. We also might want to add a sentence that the word would be used in, or perhaps a quote in which the word was used in. Before we start it though, I believe we should try and get a sense of how many words and abbreviations we would be able to include, just so we know that there is enough words to make our efforts in creating and expanding the dictionary worthwhile.--Lord Cutler BeckettPort Royal 00:31, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
        • Sounds reasonable to me. Where should we start the listing?--Wanderingshadow 12:45, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
          • Right here.
            • Added a few more. I've started writing a few entries (offline), going through an AWE transcript, and adding any others that come to me. I think there are definately enough words - there's also the 10+ Jack Sparrow books, which include all manner of references - Captain Kwenn Talk 14:50, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
