Clanker--one of Janvy Jones's crew members-- is called "Clacker" in the credits and was not mentioned by name in any of the movies. Should "Clacker" be considerd his real name because of this? J. Sparrow 02:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC) Captain J. Sparrow

  • In the credits Dead Man's Chest, he's referred to as Clanker. We use that because that name came before At World's End.--Wanderingshadow 13:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Technically, we should use the latest version of the name and regard it as a retcon; that's how canon works. Either that, or if either one of the names is further backed up in additional official sources - Captain Kwenn Talk 15:53, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
  • What sources give this character a name and do they say "Clanker," "Clacker," something different? (P.S. Captain Kwenn, I don't think all franchises use the "latest-information-is-more-accurate" approach. Not trying to offend.)- 71.36.219.167 19:34, 24 August 2007 (UTC) Captain J. Sparrow]
The Complete Visual Guide, for one, gives his name as "Clanker". It also corrects other Dutchman crew names, and is the most recent and up-to-date source available. Many franchises use that approach to canon; I see no reason why we shouldn't, although we should also discuss problems case-by-case - Captain Kwenn Talk 14:48, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
