The Henrietta was a British merchant ship that operated in the Caribbean during the Age of Piracy. In 1720s, the ship was docked at Port Royal in Jamaica when its crew noticed a pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, disembarking from a sinking ship and entering town.
History[]
It is unknown where or when the Henrietta was built. Around the late 1720s, the ship was operating out of Port Royal, the capital of the British colony of Jamaica. One day, the crew was loading cargo, including a goat, aboard the vessel from a smaller longboat whilst docked outside the harbor. However, they were soon distracted, first by a small barrel floating past, and then when they spotted its source: the famed and notorious pirate known as Captain Jack Sparrow was entering Port Royal aboard a sinking boat, the Jolly Mon, which he'd recently stolen. The crew of the Henrietta watched with confusion as Sparrow simply stepped off the mast of the sinking ship and onto the dock. The Henrietta survived the Black Pearl's attack on Port Royal and was seen the next day by Will Turner, still anchored in the harbour.[1] The ship's further fate is unknown.
Behind the scenes[]
- The Henrietta was portrayed by the Unicorn in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.[2] The Unicorn reappeared in Dead Man's Chest as a different ship, the Terpsichore.[3]
- While unnamed in the final cut of the film and related media, the Henrietta was named in an article on The St. Lucia STAR news website.[2]
