- "Five days underway, at least."
"Aye! You can tell that by the smell of the sea?"
"The smell of the crew." - ―Jack Sparrow and Scrum[src]
The crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge[2] was a pirate crew that served aboard the world-renowned vessel of infamy. When commanded by Blackbeard, this crew consisted of not just ordinary human pirates, but also obedient zombie officers whom Blackbeard created with his supernatural powers. The most prominent member of Blackbeard's crew was his First Mate and beloved daughter, Angelica. After Blackbeard's death, the crew turned to Hector Barbossa as their new captain.

Blackbeard's crew
Edit
The first crew
Edit
This crew was assembled by the notorious pirate Blackbeard on the island of New Providence in 1717. Originally, they sailed aboard two sloops, but after they captured the French frigate La Concorde off the coast of Martinique, they took the large ship as a prize, stripping the smaller of two sloops of anything valuable, and giving it to their French victims. Blackbeard renamed his new flagship the Queen Anne's Revenge.
For the next year and a half, the pirates cruised around the Caribbean, capturing and plundering around forty vessels. They even attacked the port of Charleston in South Carolina, an act which made them a terror in the eyes of all European colonies in the New World. In May 1718, the Revenge run aground on a sandbar while entering Beaufort Inlet. Blackbeard stripped the ship of his booty and marooned some of the crewmen on a small island nearby. The rest of the crew continued to serve under Blackbeard aboard the sloop Adventure. Most of them were killed or captured by the British Royal Navy during the battle of Ocracoke Inlet.
The second crew
Edit
Some time after he repaired the Queen Anne's Revenge, Blackbeard assembled a new crew. All of them were jumbees, malevolent supernatural beings, well-known throughout the Caribbean. Enslaved by Blackbeard's Dark Magic, they served their master without question.
Soon, Blackbeard put LaSchafe, his loyal jumbee first mate, in charge of the Queen Anne's Revenge. But, during the War of Jolly Roger, the undead pirate Jolly Roger managed to take control of LaSchafe and his soulless crew.[3] Controled by Jolly Roger's voodoo powers, and always thirsty for battle and fresh victims, LaSchafe and his men started to attack pirate ships in the Caribbean.
For many months, the Queen Anne's Revenge sailed around wild islands like Isla Cangrejos, Isla Perdida, and Isla Tormenta, attacking ships of the Brethren Court.[4] But, through unknown circumstances, Blackbeard managed to retake the Revenge.
The third crew
Edit
- "Look, Sparrow, as long as my sailors get their money, they are willing to put up with any number of peculiarities."
- ―Angelica to Jack Sparrow[src]
Around the War Against Piracy, Blackbeard assembled a crew of zombie officers that Blackbeard created with his supernatural powers. Blackbeard had also recruited his beloved daughter Angelica as his First Mate. Soon, one of Blackbeard's zombies, the Quartermaster, had foreseen Blackbeard's death in the hands of a one-legged man. Blackbeard's only hope was to find the fabled Fountain of Youth.[5]

Added by Captain TeagueYears after learning of the Profane Ritual, Blackbeard had to find Jack Sparrow, a pirate who was rumored to have been to the Fountain. Blackbeard sent Angelica and the Quartermaster to find Jack and force him aboard the Revenge. They were able to capture Jack in London, where Angelica was able to recruit numerous crewmen, whom she had promised a modest venture sailing under Jack Sparrow, in the Captain's Daughter.
Five days later, the crewmen would work aboard the Revenge as it sailed through the ocean. Jack Sparrow would later rally the human crewmen to set up a mutiny against Blackbeard, which was easily foiled.
Behind the scenes
Edit
- In the real-world history, Blackbeard's crew was defeated and captured by members of the British Royal Navy at the Battle of Ocracoke Inlet in 1718. They were all hanged in Williamsburg, Virginia shortly after. Only two of his original crewmen were spared, one of Blackbeard's most trusted officers named Israel Hands, and Samuel Odel, who was forced to join the pirate crew.[6]
- Blackbeard had a crew of zombies in Tim Powers' novel On Stranger Tides, the basis for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
