- "Rouse the Captain immediately! Heave to and take in sail. Launch the boats."
- ―James Norrington
This man was captain of the HMS Dauntless during the time of Governor Weatherby Swann's crossing from England to the Caribbean.
Biography[]
The captain and his crew transported Swann and his daughter, Elizabeth, to Port Royal eight years prior to Lieutenant James Norrington's promotion to the rank of Commodore. When the HMS Dauntless happened upon the wreckage of a merchant vessel presumed to be the victim of a pirate attack, the captain had already retired to his quarters and had to be roused by a member of the crew, under orders from Lieutenant Norrington.[1]
Eight years later, Norrington had become captain of the Dauntless and the HMS Interceptor.[1] The fate of his unknown predecessor is unknown.
Behind the scenes[]
- This character currently doesn't appear in the POTC universe, but he was mentioned once in the first film The Curse of the Black Pearl, by Lieutenant Norrington. In the first screenplay draft and the 2003 junior novelization Norrington himself was the captain and kept the title until his promotion as commodore.[2][3]
