Pintel and Ragetti were cannoneers.

"Batten down the hatches! Stand to your guns. Midship cannoneers, sight the masts."
Joshamee Gibbs[src]

A cannoneer was a term for an artillery gunner, first recorded in the 16th century. Their purpose was to man, load and fire a cannon onboard a ship during a battle. Many individuals have served as cannoneers, most notably Pintel and Ragetti[1][2][3]
