Angelica and Blackbeard[src]

This woman was the mother of Angelica and the wife of Blackbeard.

Biography[]

Blackbeard and Angelica[]

Not much is known of this woman, other than she was of Spanish origin.[3] Through undetermined circumstances in her life, she met Edward Teach, better known as the infamous pirate Blackbeard, who loved her dearly enough to conceive a child, an infant girl named Angelica. Upon the untimely death of Angelica's mother, Blackbeard was heartbroken as he considered her good to his bad, light to his dark, angel to the devil inside him.[2] He took his newborn daughter to a Spanish convent, where he entrusted her to the nuns for a proper upbringing.[1]

Legacy[]

As Angelica matured to be a young woman, she would have inherited some of her mother's traits, as noted by her father Blackbeard during the quest for the Fountain of Youth.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

  • Angelica's mother was first mentioned in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,[3] so far only being identified as "Angelica's mother" in the Disney Second Screen feature for the film, specifically the background information concerning the "wee newborn Angelica" and her "hearbroken father"[1] Blackbeard.[3]
  • In On Stranger Tides, Angelica's full name was never revealed onscreen.[3] According to screenwriter Terry Rossio, Angelica for many years went by her mother's maiden name, which is Rivera.[4]
  • In real-world history, Blackbeard allegedly had 14 wives, but only the name of his last wife, Mary Ormond, was recorded.
